Heramba Chandra College is a renowned college in Kolkata run by Brahma Samaj Eeducation Society. It is named after Heramba Chandra Maitra, a distinguished educationist of West Bengal. He taught English at the Post Graduate level at Calcutta University and worked as Principal of City College for about 30 years. The foundation stone of this South Calcutta wing of City college building was laid by Late Harendra Coomer Mukherjee, the then Governor of West Bengal, on January 6, in the year 1954 and opening ceremony of the building was performed on the same date in 1955. This South Calcutta wing of City college was branched off into three separate colleges namely Sivanath Sastri College (Morning) Heramba Chandra College (Day) and Prafulla Chandra College(Evening) from June 1, 1961.Thus was born Heramba Chandra College.

It was initially a Commerce college. Honours courses in History and Political sciences were taught since 1963. The college opened different honours courses in subjects like Bengali, English, Economics, Education and Geography in late 90s. A team of highly qualified teachers help the students to build up concepts. The students also excel in University examinations as well as in different competitive examinations. The college is interested in all round developments of the students. Students are encouraged to participate in college sports and in various sports' competitions organized by calcutta University, and other institutions. Students have shown exceptional achievements in sports arena. Students talents in different forms of performing arts are also nurtured in different cultural functions like Annual Social, Freshers' Welcome, Rabindra Jayanti etc organised by the college.Last of all, college is providing employment opportunuties. Recruiters like TCS, Wipro are coming every year to the college for campus interview and bulk of the students are getting jobs.
